This is an opportunity to work for a service company meeting the growing demand for balancing services in the UK electricity market through the development, construction and ownership of natural gas fired peaking engine plants and battery storage systems.

The management team has vast experience and strong financial backing to grow a premier generation business.

Their operation team is now seeking an experienced E, C & I engineer to support the operations team and take an active or lead role in the commissioning and troubleshooting of E, C & I on rapidly expanding fleet of gas fired reciprocating and battery storage projects across the UK.

This position is geographically diverse with projects across the UK. The projects range from projects with two to twenty-seven generators with an installed capacity of 4 MW to 40 MW.

Responsibilities

  • Being a safety leader, projecting and expecting the highest standards of operational health and safety.
  • Working closely with the Head of Operations, in-house maintenance engineers, construction project managers and third-party service providers to commission and trouble shoot E, C & I activities on all generating assets throughout the portfolio.
  • Ensuring the development of common and best practice E, C & I standards are implemented across all operational fleet through early engagement with the construction and operations teams.
  • Zealous pursuit of operational efficiency and minimising asset downtime providing optimum return on investment.
  • Training the in-house operations team to undertake basic fault finding and trouble shooting
  • To lead by example in displaying excellent health and safety culture throughout the organisation, supporting management in ensuring compliance with health and safety, quality and environmental legislation and company management systems.
  • Ensuring that asset downtime related to E, C & I issues are minimised by quick response times and fault finding and by sharing knowledge with others to embrace and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement of the company’s knowledge base and quality of assets
  • To plan and schedule all E, C & I related equipment and keep accurate maintenance records up to date including computerised maintenance management software (CMMS)
  • Planned and reactive maintenance of control systems on natural gas fuelled spark ignition reciprocating engines and electricity generating sets from manufacturers such as MWM/Deutz, Jenbacher, Cummins, MTU & Caterpillar
  • Bring monitoring, fault-finding and troubleshooting skills to the operations team and acting on information received, maintain operational efficiency including the implementation of short-term remedial measures where necessary.
  • Operation & routine planned maintenance of process instrumentation and controls and ancillary equipment.

Requirements

  • Extensive, hands-on experience of E, C & I and commissioning of reciprocating gas or diesel engines in the power sector, including extensive knowledge of fault-finding and troubleshooting of assets.
  • A detailed understanding of MWM, MTU, Jenbacher or CATERPILLAR gas engine management and control systems.
  • Knowledge of SCADA hardware and software
  • PLCs, control systems
  • Desirable- Authorised person and HV awareness
  • Strong people skills with the ability to work individually and as part of a team in a start-up environment.
  • Driving license and ability to travel.
  • Computer literate, basic working knowledge of CMMS and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of tuning / adjusting A/F ratio settings on gas engines
  • Good mechanical/electrical fault diagnosis
