This client is a young energy producer meeting the growing demand for balancing services in the UK electricity market through the development, construction and ownership of natural gas fired peaking engine plants and battery storage systems. The management team has vast experience and we have strong financial backing to grow a premier generation business.

Responsibilities

  • Being a safety advocate, projecting and expecting the highest standards of operational health and safety.
  • Working closely with the Senior Operations Engineer, and third-party service providers to plan, coordinate and perform timely maintenance activities on all their generating assets.
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting generation assets throughout their portfolio.
  • Zealous pursuit of operational excellence including generated output, reliability, efficiency, availability, safety and the environment.
  • To lead by example in displaying excellent health and safety culture throughout the organisation, supporting management in ensuring compliance with health and safety, quality and environmental legislation and company management systems.
  • Induction and control of contractors, approving safe systems of work and ensuring that they undertake tasks completely and safely and are recorded
  • Optimise inventory to ensure site stock and consumables are maintained to an appropriate level.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling periodic maintenance, work orders and defect rectification to maximise gas utilisation, electrical output and plant availability.
  • Supervision of external contractors, on occasions working alongside them on specific tasks for which they have been appointed to perform.
  • Reviewing engine and plant performance data and business Key Performance Indicators and providing feedback to the Senior Operations Engineer and management.
  • Regular use of computer software (Engine Management Systems, CMMS, Microsoft Office).
  • Operation & routine planned maintenance of natural gas fuelled spark ignition reciprocating engines and electricity generating sets (typically V12’s, V16’s & V20’s) from manufacturers such as MWM/Deutz, Jenbacher, MTU, Cummins & Caterpillar.
  • Provide mechanical/electrical bias to the role including basic electrical maintenance, fault finding and testing skills.
  • Bring monitoring, fault-finding and troubleshooting skills to the maintenance team and acting on information received, maintain operational efficiency including the implementation of short-term remedial measures where necessary.
  • Operation & routine planned maintenance of process instrumentation and controls and ancillary equipment
  • Keeping up to date with emerging applicable legislation, technology and good industry practice.

Requirements

  • Extensive, hands-on experience of reciprocating gas generators, including extensive knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting of assets.
  • Experience of asset optimisation.
  • The ability to work individually and as part of a team in a start-up environment.
  • Driving license and ability to travel.
  • Experience supervising third party contractors or other engineers.
  • A detailed understanding of MWM, Jenbacher, MTU, Cummins or CATERPILLAR gas engine management and control systems, and operation and maintenance of such plants.
  • Have detailed experience of Internal Combustion Engines, to include base-load power generation plant and equipment
  • Desirable; Knowledge of three phase electrical systems
  • Understanding of other Engine Management systems.
  • Computer literate, basic working knowledge of CMMS and Microsoft Office.
  • Calm under pressure
  • Able to work as part of team and under own initiative.
  • Motivated self-starter
  • A working knowledge of CMMS operations
  • Educated to at least ONC level or equivalent, or qualified by experience (for example, time-served) in Plant Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Current full driving licence
