CAD Technician

Hertfordshire or Glasgow

 

You will have to produce engineering, planning and property drawings through the development, consenting and construction stages of wind farm projects. You will be required to use AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D software to perform terrain assessments and design on-site infrastructure and Vehicle Tracking software for site access assessments.

 

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work within the UK & Ireland wind development team. You will work with members of the development & construction team to support wind farm development and design, consenting and construction.

 

Responsibilities

  • Use AutoCAD, produce drawings for environmental impact assessments, planning applications, land lease agreements, construction contracts etc. Whether from initial concept or from sketches and mark-ups, take responsibility for producing drawings. Use own knowledge of basic engineering principles, infrastructure design and construction processes to produce drawings that are fit for purpose.
  • Use Vehicle Tracking software, AutoCAD Civil 3D and industry best practices, model and design off site and on-site infrastructure including access tracks, earthworks, highway modifications, substations, utility works and grid connections.
  • Following company procedures, control and distribute both internal and external drawings using Autodesk Vault software.
  • Perform reviews of all topographic survey data (terrestrial or airborne) to ensure compliance with specification and suitability for use.
  • Update the Vehicle Tracking model database in compliance with the work instruction.
  • Provide support to development and construction team members where requested such as participating in site walkover visits and contributing to infrastructure layout design reviews.
  • Take responsibility for Sustainability, Quality, Health, Safety and Welfare issues including those under CDM Regulations in so far as they relate to your role. Contribute to the safety of projects by considering these aspects in designs. Perform design risk assessments where appropriate, with support from the Project Engineer.
  • Attend relevant internal and external training courses required to fulfil the role. Work efficiently and look for opportunities to add value or reduce cost. Recommend improvements where appropriate.

 

Knowledge

  • An understanding of basic engineering principles relating to infrastructure (e.g. road) design.
  • Good working knowledge of General Arrangement detailing.
  • Good working knowledge of terrestrial and airborne surveying techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of AutoCAD, Vehicle Tracking and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Awareness of the CDM Regulations.
  • An awareness of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
  • Basic knowledge of typical Onshore Wind Development and Construction processes.

  • Able to prioritise and adapt to evolving project priorities and demands.

 

Experience

  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD, Vehicle Tracking and AutoCAD Civil 3D (v2018 or higher).
  • Vault software (not essential as training can be provided).
  • Experience working in a team delivering multi discipline infrastructure projects.

 

Qualifications

  • Good level of G.C.S.E or equivalent qualification.
  • HNC/HND in engineering discipline or equivalent (Not essential depending on experience).
