Condition Monitoring- Wind Energy

This client is the world’s largest independent renewable energy company. Driven by a simple yet powerful vision: to create a future where everyone has access to affordable, zero carbon energy.

Responsibilities

Condition Monitoring and Performance Engineer provides engineering expertise to the O&M and Asset Management teams informing on the condition of the operating plant, mainly focussed on wind assets, to allow effective plant maintenance to minimise cost and lost production. This is a specialist role involving analysis of operational and condition data to provide the best diagnosis and prognosis for the operational plant, ensuring highest revenue and profit for clients.

  • Conduct monitoring, analysis and reporting of the generating assets using several techniques (vibration, electrical, fluid, SCADA data, inspection)
  • Diagnose issues with performance and developing failures and provide appropriate engineering recommendations for minimising cost and lost production
  • Diagnose and propose solutions for performance issues with the generating plant
  • Provide technical and engineering support to operational wind farm management teams
  • Work with other team members to develop diagnosis algorithms and methods to detect different failure modes associated with generating plant
  • Record value-add to the client from the delivery of the service to inform on investment decisions, demonstrate value, retain focus on the most appropriate methods, improve accuracy, focus on upscaling and reduce cost
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new and improved methods for both condition monitoring and reliability of generating plant with a view on advising best practise for our company and its clients
  • Evaluate the methods, software and platforms used for fleet analysis, storage of data etc. and provide advice for improvements, investment and increased data security
  • Support life extension and end of warranty inspection campaigns

Requirements

  • Understanding of typical drivetrain failure modes and troubleshooting procedures, root cause analysis (RCA) and FMEA
  • Understanding of how the physical aspects of drivetrain failures manifest in condition monitoring data
  • Understanding of monitoring equipment hardware, networks and data flow from sensor to database
  • Knowledge of change management and lean techniques
  • Investigative nature– naturally inquisitive, proactive, solution focused and has sense of ownership on work
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Data mining and programming in languages including SQL & Python
  • Analysis and troubleshooting using condition monitoring systems such as TCM, SKF and BKV
  • Ability to manage several projects and high workloads with demanding timescales
  • Work as part of a team, both leading and as an important member, influencing decisions and reacting positively to challenges
  • Excellent communication skills allowing effective discussion and transfer of information between areas of the business and turbine manufacturers or site teams
  • Strong reporting and presentation skills and proficiency in using Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience with Data Analysis and DataScience
  • Familiar with condition monitoring, vibration analysis and signal processing
  • Previous experience of continuous improvement and engineering model development
  • Experience in design or operation of generating plant
  • Experience in or detailed knowledge of wind turbine design, including design for reliability
  • Previous experience in renewable is preferred.
