Engineering Manager in sustainable energy services

The Manager of Engineering will be a member of the UK management team with accountability for design, commissioning and consultancy within their UK energy services business. This role requires complete ownership of the technical team and technical processes from initial design through to detailed design and commissioning.

Responsibilities

This is a leadership role and so the following is indicative of the responsibilities to be undertaken, but by no means exhaustive.

  • Deliver safe, quality design solutions in accordance with project scope
  • Oversee senior staff and engineers working on client projects within the company
  • Member of the UK leadership team working collaboratively with colleagues
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the UK strategy
  • Establish and maintain a network of key supplier relationships
  • Develop innovative winning technical solutions to support the sales team
  • Maintain a robust and current resource plan to ensure appropriate allocation of resources
  • Line management for team of high performing process, mechanical, electrical, civil and automation engineers
  • Adherence to, and continuous improvement, of QMS procedures relating to design and commissioning process
  • Approval and monitoring of bid budgets to control costs
  • To develop the company’s interests in all matters including: financial profitability, revenue generation identification of financial risks management of financial risks development of the company’s reputation engagement of new clients and new work / business streams coaching and development of staff
  • To shoulder administrative burden for running the business unit from other UK management team as may from time to time be required including: health and safety management, IT management, Human Resources management, and other activities that may arise

Management and reporting

  • Participate in UK management meetings on weekly, monthly and ad-hoc basis
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on technical activities
  • Maintain resource plan and competency matrix for team
  • Recruit, develop, train and maintain sufficient technical resources to deliver high quality solutions and services to our clients
  • Lead monthly technical team meetings
  • Assist in setting strategic direction relating to H, S & E issues. Advise management on any aspect of H,S and E risk/management programmes.

Design

  • Lead on safety for design ensuring all solutions undergo appropriate safety reviews including design risk assessments, HAZOP, FMEA
  • Compliance with CDM regulations
  • Provide design leadership on all projects covering technologies including: CHP, boilers, steam, chillers, compressed air, water treatment, solar PV, heat pumps, biomass.
  • Oversee design disciplines including process, mechanical, electrical, automation, civil, structural.
  • Manage 3rd party technical support contracts covering specialist design requirements.

Commissioning

  • Lead on safety and quality for commissioning of new facilities ensuring all the correct processes and procedures are in place and adhered to.

Consultancy

Oversee the delivery of consultancy services to our clients

  • Operational Support
  • Provide technical resources to investigate operational problems and conduct route cause analysis as and when required by the operations team
  • Update the company work monitoring systems with accurate details
  • Assist in improving operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide high quality customer service

Requirements

Demonstrated track record of leading a multi-discipline engineering design team to deliver on consultancy, design and commissioning services, preferably in energy efficiency and renewable space.

Chartered chemical, process or mechanical engineer.
