The Mechanical Engineer (Reliability) will act as an expert with respect to mechanical reliability and support the delivery of safe, efficient and reliable operation for over 3GW of wind power plant located across Europe.
You will be part of a team of Engineers responsible for the risk management and resolution of complex technical problems. You will be working closely with the wider Technical Department and Asset Management team, to provide expert support on the reliability of Wind Power Plant assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with Mechanical Engineers and Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) management to achieve the highest level of safety across the portfolio ensuring all relevant industry standards and guidelines are complied with.
- Take a leading role in the condition monitoring process (Vibration, Lubrication, Temperatures), working with the Predictive Maintenance Department, Project Planner and wider Asset Management team to ensure that alerts are appropriately investigated and escalated, with the aim of ensuring no unscheduled major component failures occur.
- Lead root cause of failure investigations for wind turbine component failures, working with the appropriate subcontractors to deliver clear recommendations and remedial actions required to ensure safe and reliable operations.
- Provide expert analysis of borescope inspection results, evaluating and classifying defects as per ISO standards. Specify and project manage the remedial works to return assets to service.
- Development and technical due diligence of upgrades and solutions to remedy serial defects.
- Define and lead projects embedding best practice technical processes across the portfolio.
- Support Mechanical Engineer (Reliability) with development of refurbishment scopes for drive train components.
- In conjunction with the Commercial and Procurement Manager and the Engineering team, specify replacement parts and services. Provide installation support in coordination with Independent Service Providers and Asset Management.
- Identify and assess relevant contractors and work with the Commercial and Procurement teams to negotiate scope of services and commercial terms. Manage contractors following contract completion.
- Play a key role in ensuring asset configuration control by conducting/assessing Engineering Change Requests and presenting to Senior Management for approval.

Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of condition monitoring of rotating equipment, including vibration and lubrication analysis.

- Commercial awareness and experience in the negotiation of technical work packages.
- Any demonstrable experience of working with Wind Power and the associated mechanical subsystems and components
- Knowledge and experience of completing Root Cause Analysis.
- Any knowledge of wind turbine drive trains including the design, manufacture and operational failure modes.
- Experience of managing contractors and delivering multiple projects simultaneously, to schedule and budget.
Education & Qualifications
- Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with demonstrable experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with the relevant Engineering Institution.
- ISO 18436-2 vibration analyst.
- MLA Level 1 analyst.
